24 MPs have signed an open letter to Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero The Rt Hon Claire Coutinho MP, calling for the government to give off-grid households the choice of switching to a renewable liquid fuel so they can decarbonise their heating in a practical and affordable way.

In September, the government amended the Energy Bill by introducing a measure to develop a Renewable Liquid Heating Fuel Obligation, subject to a consultation. However, after six months, the consultation has yet to be published. In the letter, the MPs have urged the government to provide an update and urgently bring forward the timescales.

We will continue to work with the government to deliver a renewable liquid fuel solution for the UK’s 1.7 million oil heated properties.
